It always surprises me how slippery my pitch seems when I turn off my tuning drone and rehearse with piano. J and I played Enesco, Halsey-Stevens, Tartini, and Torelli today. If tuning to a drone is like archery, tuning to the piano feels like archery on a unicycle. Charlie Geyer would scold me for neglecting this area (mostly piccolo with piano) and tell me to practice with organ drones and other instruments (duets) as well.
We are snowed in for the rest of the evening.
